The film tells the 20-year story of the city of Bern's refuge and contact point for drug users from the so-called Fixerstübli (literally: mainlining parlor) to today's contact point and counseling center of the foundation Contact Netz. The film shows not only the inside view - Fixerstübli/Contact seen through the eyes of the staff and the drug users in their orbit - but the social and political context and tensions surrounding the center as well. The open drug scenes of the major Swiss cities in the eighties and nineties, the social misery spread out for everyone to see in highly visible city center locations - in and around the main train station in Bern, for instance - , and the controversial policy of turning people away: all of these events and developments left their imprint on the drug policies that followed and the social acceptance of institutions catering to the needs of drug users.
